Unique Experiences & Hidden Gems in Solano County, California
Some of Solano County’s most memorable experiences are found off the usual path. From walking through seasonal flower fields in Suisun Valley to getting up close with alpacas on a working Vacaville ranch, these locally selected experiences offer something genuinely different to do.
HvH Specialty Growers — Suisun Valley
HvH Specialty Growers is an 11-acre flower farm where the experience changes with the seasons. Visitors can pull tulips—bulb and all—during the spring Tulip Pull-Up, pick fragrant lavender during the summer Lavender Celebration, and return for seasonal flower events, workshops and photo opportunities throughout the year.
There’s also a great story behind the farm. Owners Lisa Haas and Ron vanHuuksloot began with photography and flowers before moving into commercial flower farming. After opening their operation to the community during the pandemic and seeing the response from local flower lovers, they purchased the Suisun Valley property in 2020 and developed it into the destination it is today.
Why we chose it: Picking your own flowers surrounded by Suisun Valley countryside makes HvH much more than a flower stand. The seasonal experiences, beautiful setting and story behind the farm make it one of the more unexpected outings in Solano County.

Menagerie Hill Ranch — Vacaville
Tucked into the rural English Hills area of Vacaville, Menagerie Hill Ranch is a small family-run working alpaca ranch where visitors can book a private ranch tour and get surprisingly close to the animals. Guests can feed alpacas and llamas, take photos, learn about raising alpacas and see how their fleece becomes fiber and yarn.
Owners Deb Galway and Kirk Howard have been working with alpacas for roughly two decades, and the ranch is more than an animal attraction—it’s an operating breeding and fiber ranch. Private tours typically last about one to one-and-a-half hours, and visits are available by appointment only.
Why we chose it: Getting up close with alpacas on a private tour of a real working ranch is one of those experiences many people wouldn't expect to find in Vacaville—and that's exactly what makes it a Solano County hidden gem.
